To advertise on ChatGPT, create an account in ChatGPT Ads Manager at ads.openai.com and add your business and credit card. Next, build a campaign, an ad group and an ad, and install the OpenAI pixel to measure conversions. Finally, ChatGPT ads go through review before they run.
In short
- In Brazil, companies based in the country can already advertise on ChatGPT through Ads Manager. However, you cannot change the country, currency and time zone after sign-up.
- The campaign holds the objective and budget, the ad group holds the context hints, and the ad holds the copy, image and page.
- Context hints say what you sell, for whom and when, but they are not keywords.
- Without the pixel or the Conversions API, the report shows no sales. So connect the event to the campaign before traffic starts.
Can Brazilian companies advertise on ChatGPT on their own?
Yes. Companies based in Brazil can already advertise on ChatGPT on their own in Ads Manager, OpenAI’s self-serve platform. According to OpenAI’s list of countries, the rule applies to the legal entity that advertises and pays. Still, Ads Manager is in beta, and its features keep changing.
ChatGPT ads arrived in Brazil in August 2026. New accounts, however, may start out limited to Brazil. To reach other countries, the account needs approved identity verification and the required spend from campaigns in Brazil. If you would rather not do it yourself, you can also buy through agencies and partners. Before you open the account, see when the channel is worth testing.

What should you prepare before you advertise on ChatGPT?
Before you advertise on ChatGPT, gather what Ads Manager will ask for: business details, a card, a logo and landing pages. Also make sure you can access the site code, because the conversion pixel goes in the page header.
- Business details: registered legal name, address and invoice email.
- Credit card: from the same country as the business, since OpenAI may not accept a card from another country.
- Logo and brand name: both appear next to the ad.
- Landing pages: the most specific page for each offer, open to the OAI-AdsBot crawler.
- Access to the site or Google Tag Manager: after all, that is where the pixel goes in.
How do you create a ChatGPT Ads Manager account?
Go to ads.openai.com and log in with the OpenAI account you use for ChatGPT, ideally one tied to your work email. Next, enter your website so Ads Manager can draft your first ad, or skip this step. Finally, fill in the advertiser name, country, currency and time zone.
Check the last three carefully, because you cannot change them later, according to OpenAI’s Help Center. The advertiser name, in turn, initially becomes the account name, the brand name and the legal name. The legal name is the registered business name used for billing. Also, if you created an ad during sign-up, it can run and incur spend after approval, once billing and the account are ready. So pause the campaign if you are not ready to advertise yet.
How to set up billing, brand and team
After sign-up, finish the setup before any campaign runs:
- Billing: in Billing, create the billing profile and add the card. The temporary authorization hold your bank may show is not a charge.
- Brand: in Settings > General, check the logo and the names. Later, changing the brand name or legal name triggers a new review and may pause your ads.
- Team: if needed, invite people in Settings > Users as Admin, Member or Viewer.
- Verification: complete business verification, which can take up to 7 business days.
The site’s domain, by the way, must match the registered business. Also, agencies that will advertise on ChatGPT for several clients open one Ads Manager account per client, with the same login.
How do you set up campaigns, ad groups and ads on ChatGPT?
To advertise on ChatGPT, Ads Manager organizes everything in three levels. The campaign sets the objective, budget, dates and audience, while the ad group holds the context hints and the bid. The ad, in turn, carries the title, copy, image and landing page. To start, click Create, then Create campaign.
Campaign: objective, budget and audience
Choose carefully between Views, Clicks and Conversions, because the objective sets how you pay. According to OpenAI’s Help Center, you cannot change it later. For the budget, OpenAI recommends starting with a daily budget. For accounts billed in Brazilian reais, the minimum is R$ 40 per day. On your first campaign, however, the start and end dates may only appear after you publish. So if the ad must launch on a set date, do not publish just to reach that field.
For the audience, select Brazil and, if you want, states or postal codes. In OpenAI’s location catalog, Brazil has its states, the Federal District and five-digit prefixes of the CEP, the Brazilian postal code. However, it has no cities yet. Product feed campaigns, on the other hand, only target at the country level. You can also choose app or browser and use customer lists, but a list that includes people needs at least 25,000 matched users.
Ad group: theme and bid
Build one ad group for each product, service or customer need. A travel agency, for example, can split beach and ecotourism, since each theme needs its own copy and page. In eligible new ad groups, Ads Manager selects automatic bidding by default. However, if you need a cap, you can switch to a manual max bid. For click campaigns, OpenAI suggests starting with a maximum bid of $3 to $5.
Ad: copy, image and page
Each ad has a title of up to 50 characters and copy of up to 100. The image must be a square PNG or JPG of up to 1,200 by 1,200 pixels. According to OpenAI’s campaign launch guide, the recommended range is 16 to 24 characters for titles and 32 to 48 for copy. It also pays to create several versions per offer, each with its own angle. For the landing page, use the product or category page, with UTM parameters in the URL.
Finally, set the campaign to Active and submit the ads for review. If one of them is not running, hover over the status to see why.
How does ChatGPT decide which conversations show your ads?
OpenAI’s system compares the context of the conversation with the ad copy, the landing page, the context hints and the targeting. With personalization on, signals from the person’s use of ChatGPT also count. Then, among eligible ads, a relevance-weighted, second-price auction picks the one that shows.
In other words, there is no keyword buying in ChatGPT ads.
How to write good context hints
Each hint is a natural phrase with one idea about what you sell, for whom and in what situation. According to OpenAI’s context hints guide, it should add something the ad and the page do not make clear. For example, a travel agency gets more from “ecotourism in Bonito, Brazil, for families with young children” than from “travel”.
However, hints do not guarantee the ad in a conversation, and they cannot enforce limits on place, schedule or exclusions. To limit the audience, use the campaign’s targeting. In addition, update your hints whenever a price or promotion changes. Qualifying advertisers can also use Negative Phrases, which keep ChatGPT ads away from topics the brand avoids.
How do you install the pixel and measure conversions from ChatGPT ads?
Create a data source under Conversions > Data Sources in Ads Manager to get the pixel ID. Then install the code in your site’s header and fire an event when the purchase or lead happens. Finally, attach that event to the campaign before traffic starts, because a later fix does not apply to past clicks.
- Install the pixel in the
<head>of the pages that measure conversions, as the pixel documentation explains. Google Tag Manager also works. - Respect consent: if your site asks for consent to measure, keep the pixel off until the visitor accepts.
- Use standard events, such as purchase (
order_created) and lead (lead_created), because only they can serve as goals in conversion campaigns. - Send values in cents as whole numbers, with the BRL currency.
- Test with debug mode, then allow 24 to 48 hours for conversions to show up.
In a store, for example, a purchase of R$ 89.90 looks like this:
oaiq("measure", "order_created", {
type: "contents",
amount: 8990,
currency: "BRL"
}, { event_id: "order_12345" });
Pixel, Conversions API or both?
The pixel measures in the browser, while the Conversions API sends the event from your server, such as a confirmed order. OpenAI recommends using both, with the same event ID, so it does not count a sale twice. In the API, however, the click ID, called oppref, does not come through on its own. According to the conversions documentation, your server must capture it and send it with the event.
How to separate the paid click in GA4
Without UTM parameters, a paid click may reach GA4 with the same source as organic visits from chatgpt.com. So add UTM parameters to your ad URLs, with dynamic parameters such as {campaign_id} that Ads Manager fills in. The guide to ChatGPT traffic in GA4 shows where these visits appear.
The direct GA4 connection, however, is in beta and needs a request to your account manager. The Shopify app, for now, only serves US stores. In October 2026, OpenAI also announced measurement partners such as LiveRamp, Northbeam and Triple Whale.
What the ChatGPT Ads Manager report does not show
The report shows impressions, clicks, spend and conversions, but not the answer above the ad. So run the prompts your hints describe and note whether the answer cites the brand. What leads ChatGPT to cite a site is in the guide on how to show up in ChatGPT. To compare the ad’s cost per sale with organic, use the SEO and GEO ROI calculation.
Which ads and categories are banned on ChatGPT?
Even with an approved Ads Manager account, not every company can advertise on ChatGPT. In Brazil, OpenAI bans legal services and, as a rule, health and financial services. In every country, gambling, alcohol, tobacco, adult content and politics are also off the table. For now, ChatGPT ads focus on consumer goods, local services, travel, digital products and education.
Only a small group of approved advertisers can promote bank accounts, credit cards, insurance and investments. The full list of allowed and banned categories covers each sector.
Why OpenAI rejects an ad and how to appeal
According to OpenAI’s ad policies, review covers the title, copy, image and landing page, and the whole set must be consistent. A food delivery ad, for example, cannot link to a page about alcoholic drinks. Unfounded claims and ads that mimic the ChatGPT interface also fail.
A page the crawler cannot open also blocks the ad. So allow OAI-AdsBot in robots.txt, in your firewall and in your bot protection. Before you edit the file, see how rule groups work in the guide to robots.txt for AI.
If OpenAI rejects the ad, read the reason, fix it and resubmit. If you disagree, request a new review in Ads Manager, since an appeal is the fastest path, according to OpenAI’s Help Center. Support only steps in if there is no appeal option or if the appeal goes 7 days without an answer.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. According to OpenAI, the pixel works through Google Tag Manager, as long as the tool loads the code on the right pages. The tool also must not block or reorder the initialization and event calls. If loading fails, install the code directly on the site or use the Conversions API.
OpenAI does not document Pix (Brazil’s instant payment system) or boleto (a bank payment slip) for ads. In its Help Center, Pix only appears for ChatGPT subscriptions on the Go, Plus and Pro plans. To advertise on ChatGPT Ads in self-serve, the billing page only describes a credit card, from the business’s country and charged after delivery. Advertisers managed by the sales team, on the other hand, can pay by invoice under their agreement.
Not yet. According to OpenAI, the ChatGPT Ads app for Shopify serves US stores and should soon reach other markets with ChatGPT ads. In the meantime, a Brazilian store can install the pixel on its site and send its catalog through a product feed created in Ads Manager.
