ChatGPT ads cost at least R$ 40 in daily budget per campaign for accounts billed in Brazilian reais. Within that budget, ChatGPT ads pricing per click or per thousand impressions comes from an auction. In a Brazilian sample, the ChatGPT ads cost per click was R$ 2.40. Also, taxes come on top.

In short

  • For accounts billed in Brazilian reais, the minimum daily budget is R$ 40 per campaign. However, one day can spend up to R$ 80, and one week up to R$ 280.
  • OpenAI suggests a starting max bid of $3 to $5 per click. In ChatGPT ads pricing, that bid is a cap, not the average price.
  • In a Brazilian sample from August and September 2026, a click cost R$ 2.40 on average. A thousand impressions cost R$ 32.05.
  • Prices exclude taxes, and the contracting party is a US company. So check Brazil’s IOF tax and other taxes with your accountant before the test.

What is the minimum budget for ChatGPT ads in Brazil?

In accounts billed in Brazilian reais, the minimum daily budget is R$ 40 per campaign, according to OpenAI’s Help Center. The minimum depends on the account’s currency: in US dollar accounts, for example, it is $25. But the daily budget works as an average, so one day can spend twice as much.

Under OpenAI’s rules, the daily budget is a seven-day average. The budget week runs from Sunday to Saturday in the account’s time zone. So with R$ 40 a day, a single day can reach R$ 80, and the week R$ 280. If a campaign uses up its weekly allowance early, it may stop until the next week, even while marked active.

Koko, a Brazilian agency that sells media management, saw this rule at work. A campaign with a R$ 40 daily budget spent R$ 80 on a Monday and R$ 280 that week. Over 30 days, therefore, ChatGPT ads cost about R$ 1,200 at the minimum, if the campaign spends the average.

There is also a campaign-total budget, which caps the whole campaign. However, OpenAI recommends the daily budget if you are new to the platform. The guide on how to advertise on ChatGPT shows the campaign setup step by step.

How much does a click cost on ChatGPT ads?

There is no fixed price, because the cost per click on ChatGPT ads comes from an auction. For click campaigns, OpenAI suggests starting with a max bid of $3 to $5, with no figure in reais. However, in ChatGPT ads pricing that figure is only a starting bid cap, not the average price paid.

In Brazil, public data is still scarce. Marktech is a Brazilian company that sells ad management. It added up the ChatGPT Ads campaigns of accounts it manages from August to September 2026. In those accounts, the average CPC was R$ 2.40, with about 4.97 million impressions and 66,000 clicks. The company itself calls the numbers preliminary.

At Koko, a click cost R$ 0.74 in an August course campaign. In a lead campaign for the agency itself, it cost R$ 1.26. In other words, what ChatGPT ads cost per click varies a lot across accounts, niches and weeks. Koko also says its average click came in well below the suggested bid.

In cases reported in US dollars, a high-ticket store paid $4.41 per click after spending $9,620. Synter, on the other hand, paid $10.62 in the US, in a B2B campaign. Search Engine Journal gathered these cases. According to the publication, the suggested bid shows up often in market talk, but it is not a CPC benchmark.

How much does CPM cost on ChatGPT?

With the Views objective, OpenAI charges per thousand impressions, and ChatGPT ads pricing for CPM also comes from an auction. For ChatGPT ads pricing, the company only suggests a starting bid for click campaigns. It also says it has no performance benchmarks by industry yet. In Marktech’s sample, a thousand impressions cost R$ 32.05. Across accounts from different segments, the CPM stayed between R$ 32 and R$ 36.

On Google search, the median for accounts run by the same company was R$ 248.51 per thousand impressions in July. In other words, an impression on ChatGPT cost about one eighth as much. But only one in 75 turned into a click.

Outside Brazil, Synter, which sells media automation, paid an average CPM of $34.16 in five English-speaking markets. That covered 129,663 impressions over nine days in June 2026, in B2B campaigns.

So a low CPM does not guarantee a cheap click. After all, the real ChatGPT ads cost per click is the CPM divided by the clicks per thousand impressions. In the Brazilian sample, R$ 32.05 divided by 13.3 clicks comes to about R$ 2.40.

How does the ChatGPT ads auction work?

Among the ads eligible for a conversation, OpenAI uses a relevance-weighted, second-price auction. In other words, both the bid and relevance count. The winner pays based on the next competitor’s bid, not on its own cap. The guide to ChatGPT Ads explains how the system picks the ad.

That is why ChatGPT ads pricing changes with competition and with your own budget. At Marktech, a click cost R$ 1.03 in the first week. Then the company raised its daily budget more than sixfold. By the fourth week, the ChatGPT ads cost per click had reached R$ 4.09.

In Marktech’s view, part of the rise came from the bigger budget. That is because the system took the ads into less relevant conversations. The other part came from new competitors, who push up the second price. When the budget came back near its starting level, the CPC settled around R$ 2.50.

Three things in Ads Manager also affect the ChatGPT ads cost. First, automatic bidding is the default in eligible new ad groups. According to OpenAI, it aims for the most results and does not guarantee a CPC or cost per acquisition. Also, low bids can limit delivery and leave budget unspent. Finally, Ads Manager may show whether a bid is likely to be competitive.

Are ChatGPT ads more expensive than Google Ads?

Per click, not always: in a Brazilian sample, the ChatGPT ads cost per click was close to Google’s. However, ChatGPT drove far fewer clicks per impression. Also, the cost per sale depends on conversion, which fell when the budget rose quickly.

MetricChatGPT AdsGoogle search
CPCR$ 2.40R$ 2.52
CPMR$ 32.05R$ 248.51
CTR1.33%8.98%

The ChatGPT numbers add up Marktech’s accounts in August and September 2026. The Google numbers, on the other hand, are the July median of 65 search accounts in Marktech’s Google Ads benchmark. Therefore, the two samples are not the same accounts.

Conversion matters more than the click. At Marktech, the conversion rate fell 88% from the first to the fourth week, after the budget went up. Koko’s course campaign, in turn, made 3 sales (course enrollments) from 4,996 clicks, or R$ 1,240.11 per sale. So ChatGPT ads cost little per click, but the cost per sale can be high.

How does OpenAI bill, and which taxes apply?

In self-serve accounts, OpenAI charges your credit card after the ads run. The charge comes when spend reaches the account’s payment threshold or at the end of the month. However, ChatGPT Ads pricing does not include taxes. Also, the contracting party for Brazilian companies is a US company.

Under OpenAI’s Advertising Terms, fees exclude applicable taxes, and OpenAI charges the transaction taxes the law requires. The advertiser, in turn, pays without deducting any withholding: if the law requires withholding, the advertiser pays the extra amount. Also, an agency that puts its legal name and billing address on the invoice becomes the customer for tax purposes.

The same terms name the contracting party. Outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland, it is OpenAI OpCo, LLC, of San Francisco. However, OpenAI does not say how a Brazilian card classifies this charge. If the card issuer treats it as a foreign purchase, Brazil’s IOF tax applies. Under the IOF decree, the rate on international card purchases is 3.5%.

Finally, OpenAI’s Help Center notes that OpenAI cannot give tax advice. Therefore, what ChatGPT ads cost in practice includes these taxes, so take the numbers to your accountant before the test.

How do you calculate the cost per lead of a ChatGPT test?

On ChatGPT Ads, the cost of each lead is spend divided by leads, as OpenAI suggests for cost per conversion. Before the test, run the math in reverse. The expected CPC divided by the page’s conversion rate gives the likely cost per lead. In Koko’s lead campaign, for example, R$ 2,626.26 brought in 5 leads, or R$ 525 per lead.

In that campaign, the CPC was R$ 1.26, and about 0.24% of clicks became leads. So what ChatGPT ads cost per lead depends more on the page’s conversion rate than on the click. That is why you should start from the page’s current conversion rate on Google Ads. Then check the real number in the first weeks.

With the Conversions objective, the bid cap applies per conversion, but OpenAI does not recommend an amount for it. With manual bidding, the daily budget must also be at least as high as the campaign’s highest bid.

How to plan a ChatGPT ads test budget

First, decide how many leads the test needs and what cost per lead the client accepts. The budget is the two multiplied. Then compare the result with the minimum. Four weeks at R$ 40 a day add up to R$ 1,120. At Koko’s rate, that would pay for only two leads.

  • Weekly cap: plan your cash for the maximum. That is twice the daily budget in a day and seven times it in a week.
  • Pace: raise the budget gradually, because Marktech saw the cost per conversion soar when it multiplied the daily budget.
  • Taxes: on top of the ChatGPT ads cost, set aside a margin for the taxes your accountant flags. That includes the IOF, if the card charges it.
  • Management: the media budget does not include the fee of the agency that runs the account.

Finally, compare the ad with the presence the brand already has without paying. After all, the organic answer also reaches users on ad-free plans. To measure it, follow the protocol on how to measure brand mentions and citations. GEO, by contrast, runs on fees, not media spend. See the guide on how much an agency should charge for GEO. The guide on SEO and GEO ROI brings both fronts into one report.

Frequently asked questions

How much do ChatGPT ads cost per month at the minimum budget?

With the R$ 40 daily minimum, ChatGPT ads cost about R$ 1,200 in 30 days, if spend hits the average. In a single week, however, spend can reach R$ 280, and in a single day, R$ 80. Taxes come on top of that amount.

Do ChatGPT ads charge per conversion?

No. Even with the Conversions objective, ChatGPT ads pricing is per click or per thousand impressions. The conversion only guides delivery. Also, the bid cap per conversion does not guarantee the cost per acquisition. That is because the auction sets the CPC or CPM you pay.

Does ChatGPT Ads billing stop when you pause a campaign?

Not right away. According to OpenAI, the ad may keep showing for up to 24 hours after the pause. You pay for that spend. In Koko’s lead campaign, for example, the account still spent R$ 6.62 the day after the pause.
