GEO for B2B and SaaS is the work of getting AI to put your company on the buyer’s vendor shortlist before sales gets involved. It depends less on your website and more on the sources AI reads, such as reviews, comparisons, press and documentation. Here is what matters and how to measure it.

In short

  • In G2’s survey of 1,076 software buyers, 51% start their research with an AI chatbot more often than with Google.
  • For category questions, only 7.2% of brand mentions came with the brand’s own site cited, according to BuzzStream. In other words, the shortlist relies on third-party sources.
  • ChatGPT’s search looks for reviews, comparisons and pricing. That is why comparison, pricing and integration pages, plus public docs, are part of GEO for B2B.
  • Measure brand presence with prompts written for each role on the buying committee. Then match the results with opportunities in your CRM.

How do B2B buyers use AI to build a vendor list?

B2B buyers ask AI for the options in a category, compare the names and reach the seller with the list almost done. So GEO for B2B starts before the first contact. After all, if the brand is missing from that answer, it is out of the race, even with a good website.

G2 surveyed 1,076 software purchase decision makers in March 2026. They came from North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. For 51% of them, research starts with an AI chatbot more often than with Google. In addition, chatbots are the top source shaping the shortlist, named by 54%. Finally, 33% bought from a vendor they had never heard of. However, G2 sells marketing to software vendors and has Capterra in the same group. Also, the sample does not include Latin America.

In fact, the choice is often made before sales steps in. In the 2025 6sense study of nearly 4,000 B2B buyers, four out of five deals went to the favorite from before first contact. 6sense also has a stake in the topic, since it sells B2B marketing software. As with G2, the sample does not include Latin America. What to publish for each buyer question is covered in the guide to B2B content marketing.

Why the buying committee changes GEO for B2B

In B2B, however, a group decides, and each person asks AI different questions. According to the research firm Forrester, a typical decision involves 13 people from the buying company and 9 from outside. So users ask about daily use, IT asks about integration and security, and finance asks about price.

Therefore, GEO for B2B does not fit on a single product page. In other words, AI needs to find a clear answer for each role, on your site and beyond it. That is the difference from retail, where one person buys alone. The basics apply to any industry and are in the guide to what GEO is.

Which sources matter for GEO for B2B: G2, Capterra, comparisons and press?

The third-party sources AI reads when buyers ask about a category matter most. These include review sites, “best of” lists, comparisons, trade press and expert profiles. The brand’s own site, on the other hand, matters more once buyers ask for it by name. So GEO for B2B and SaaS works on both fronts.

BuzzStream, which sells PR software, analyzed 12,000 answers from four AI engines. For category questions, such as “best project management tools,” only 7.2% of brand mentions came with the brand’s site cited. For head-to-head comparisons, however, the rate rose to 35.8%. In other words, for the question that builds the shortlist, the recommendation comes from other pages. Still, the study does not say which country the questions came from.

Review sites also show up often in software searches. In a study by Genezio, which sells an AI visibility platform, ChatGPT searched G2, Gartner and reviews for B2B sales software. Similarly, in G2’s survey, review sites shape the shortlist for 43% of buyers. The weight of G2 and Capterra changes with the AI engine. Also, the rules for asking for reviews differ from site to site.

In Brazil, Capterra Brasil and B2B Stack, a Brazilian software review site, also count. So run the questions in your buyers’ language, Portuguese in Brazil, and see which domains the answer cites. The guide to the sources AI cites most shows how to gain presence in each type.

Do comparison, pricing and integration pages help GEO for SaaS?

Yes, because AI search looks for exactly these topics. When ChatGPT researches a category, it pairs the name with reviews, comparisons and pricing. So, in GEO for B2B and SaaS, a company without these pages leaves the answer to what others published about it.

In the Genezio study, reviews and comparisons each appeared in 18% of ChatGPT’s internal queries, and pricing in 10%. In addition, when users asked to compare two brands, ChatGPT researched only one of them in 25% of conversations. Meanwhile, in G2’s survey, the buyer’s first prompt is about a competitor in 31% of cases. The ecosystem comes up in 9%, and the budget in 6%.

In GEO for SaaS, each type of question calls for a page:

  • Comparison and alternatives: a competitor comparison page for each frequent rival, with criteria, pricing and the customer profile each option serves.
  • Pricing: even without a public price list, the price range and what makes it change, such as users, volume or contract.
  • Integrations: one page per key integration, with what it does, how it connects and which plan includes it.
  • Security and LGPD (Brazil’s data protection law): certifications, where the data is stored and who is responsible for it, in text and not only in a PDF.

Public documentation: the forgotten asset in GEO for SaaS

Documentation answers the questions of IT and implementation teams, but many companies keep it behind a login. In that case, AI cannot read it. According to Google, a page only shows as a link in AI Overviews or AI Mode under one condition. It must be indexed and eligible to appear in Search with a snippet.

So, in GEO for B2B and SaaS, publish your help center, API reference, technical requirements and dated release notes on open pages. If your docs need JavaScript to show the text, also check what AI crawlers can read. In addition, sign these pages with the name and role of the people who implement the product. That shows experience, the basis of E-E-A-T.

How do you build B2B buying prompts?

Write the prompts the way each committee role would ask, without naming your brand. Include industry, company size and country. Then add questions with your competitors’ names. Next, run each one several times and note which brands AI recommends and which sources it cites. That list is the basis of GEO for B2B and SaaS.

RoleSample prompt (ours)Page that answers
User“Best fleet management system for a midsize trucking company”Solution by industry
IT“Fleet system that integrates with SAP”Integrations and API
Finance“How much does fleet management software cost”Price range
Procurement and legal“Fleet software with data stored in Brazil and LGPD compliance”Security and contract
Leadership“Alternatives to vendor X for fleets”Comparison and case studies

A few rules make the list useful:

  1. Start with the category: two-thirds of the buyers G2 surveyed open with a category or a competitor.
  2. Use the local language and context: city, industry and company size change the sources cited.
  3. Vary the engines: in G2’s survey, ChatGPT was the most used chatbot in every industry and company size. But second place changed from segment to segment.
  4. Repeat and freeze the list: the answer changes with every run, so compare rates, not screenshots.

According to G2, the software marketers it interviewed already type buying prompts to see who shows up instead of them. To turn this into a metric, follow the protocol to measure brand mentions and citations in AI, with repeated runs and a margin of error.

How do you connect GEO for B2B to pipeline?

Connect it in three layers. First, the brand’s presence on the AI shortlist. Second, source signals on the site and in forms. Third, the result in the CRM. No single layer proves the effect of GEO for B2B and SaaS. Together, however, they show whether the brand makes more lists and whether those deals close.

The problem, after all, is well known. In G2’s 39 interviews with software marketers, the most common complaint was attribution. In other words, they see signs that AI influences pipeline, but they cannot measure it precisely.

Still, there are signs that the channel matters more than traffic suggests. Ahrefs, which sells SEO tools, measured its own site over 30 days. AI search brought 0.5% of visits but 12.1% of signups, mostly from ChatGPT. However, that is a single site over a short period.

In the CRM, add what analytics cannot see:

  • In the discovery call: ask which vendors were on the list and where the buyer found them.
  • In the opportunity record: create an “AI cited at source” field and a field with the competitors on the list.
  • In the quarterly review: compare the win rate of deals with and without AI at the source.

Finally, the AI channel in GA4 and the ROI math, with the “how did you hear about us?” field, are in the guide to SEO and GEO ROI.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Brazilian SaaS company need to be on G2?

It depends on the sources AI cites in its category. So run the buying questions in Portuguese and note whether the answer cites G2, Capterra, Capterra Brasil or B2B Stack. In G2’s survey, review sites shape the shortlist for 43% of buyers. However, the sample does not include Latin America.

Is it enough to test GEO for B2B only in ChatGPT?

No. In G2’s survey, ChatGPT was the chatbot software buyers used most in every industry and company size. Even so, the second engine changed by segment, and each engine cites its own sources. Therefore, also test Gemini, Copilot and Google’s AI Overviews.

How long does it take for GEO for B2B to show up in pipeline?

We found no public study that measures this timeline in B2B. After all, the effect depends on getting into the sources AI cites. It also depends on the buying cycle, which usually takes months. So measure AI shortlist presence every month and deals with AI at the source every quarter.
