About us page: what to write so AI describes your company

An about us page is where a company says, on its website, who it is, what it sells, to whom, where and since when. Today, Google and assistants like ChatGPT can also consult it as an official source. This guide shows what to write, an about us page template in eight blocks and how to fix AI errors.

In short

  • In a Searchable study, 1,704 brands flagged 9.2% of the facts AI stated about them as incorrect.
  • Even stable facts go wrong: for example, brands flagged 6.9% of history and founding facts as incorrect.
  • Write in visible text who the company is, what it does, for whom, where and since when, and repeat it on LinkedIn and in directories.
  • Organization markup can help Google identify the company, but AI features don’t require it, and it doesn’t replace text.

What should an about us page include in 2026?

An about us page should open with text that says who the company is and what it sells. It should also say whom it serves, where it works and since when. The about us page template below then adds the facts behind that opening: legal name, headquarters, leadership, clients, sourced numbers and the last review date.

Like the FAQ and product pages, it is an official company page in a content marketing plan for the AI era.

For websites that offer or sell to consumers in Brazil, some of these facts are mandatory. That is because Decree 7,962/2013 requires the business name, the CNPJ (company tax ID) and the physical and electronic address in a prominent place.

About us page template in eight blocks

This about us page template covers, in eight blocks, what customers and AI look for:

  1. Opening: one sentence with what the company does, for whom, where and since when.
  2. Company facts: name, legal name, CNPJ (tax ID), founding year, headquarters and service area.
  3. What we sell: services or products, each with a link to its own page.
  4. Who we serve: segments, client size and, with permission, client names.
  5. Who runs it: names and titles of partners and directors, with links to their profiles.
  6. History in milestones: year and event, including changes of name, headquarters or offering.
  7. Proof: numbers with a date and source, awards with a year and press coverage with links.
  8. Contact and review: address, official channels and the date of the last update.

For example, in this about us page template, the opening for a fictional marketing agency would read:

Agência Exemplo is a digital marketing agency in Curitiba, founded in 2014, that serves B2B software companies across Brazil.

In this template, mission, vision and values can follow the facts on the page, but never replace them. Each service you mention deserves its own product or service page, with scope, audience and price. Finally, an FAQ on your website completes the page with questions about price, timelines and coverage.

What company facts does AI look for and get wrong: founding, location, services, clients and leadership?

AI describes a company with whatever it finds about it: history and founding, location and service area, services, clients, prices and financial figures. In general, the facts that change often are the ones it gets wrong most. But even stable facts, such as the founding year, are sometimes wrong.

In the tool from Searchable, which sells AI brand monitoring, employees of each brand review every fact AI states about it. Until July 2026, 1,704 brands reviewed 32,556 facts and flagged 9.2% as incorrect. However, this is self-assessment with no independent audit, and the report has no data on Brazil.

Type of factFacts flagged as wrong
Pricing13.5%
Funding and financials10.9%
Partnerships and clients9.9%
Products and services8.6%
History and founding6.9%
Location and coverage4.8%
Awards and certifications3.4%

The table shows only 7 of the 10 fact types in the report, the ones a company covers on its about us page. According to Searchable, a false fact can be outdated, a mix-up with another brand or an invention. So each case calls for a different fix on the page:

  • Outdated fact: write the date next to the fact, for example “in 2026, we are a team of 40,” and review the page whenever the company changes.
  • Mix-up with another brand: state on the page the full company name, legal name, city and official website, and link your profiles.
  • Invention: write the missing fact, because according to Searchable, AI may guess when there is little settled information online.

Brands with up to 50 employees flagged 9.4% of facts as wrong, compared to 6.3% for large companies. The report does not measure leadership, but the names and titles of your leaders show who answers for the company.

How do you keep the same facts on your website, LinkedIn and directories?

Build a single fact sheet with the official company facts, like block 2 of the about us page template. Then copy from it to the about us page, footer, contact page, LinkedIn, Google Business Profile and directories. Whenever a fact changes, update the sheet and every copy on the same day, starting with the about us page on your website.

This matters because the company website is not the only source in AI answers. SISTRIX, which sells SEO and AI tools, tracked 82,619 prompts in six countries (the US and five in Europe) for 17 weeks. In AI Mode, the brand website appeared among the sources every week for only 43% of searches for the brand. However, in 66% of them, it stayed for at least 80% of the weeks. Meanwhile, 70% of the other sources cited next to it changed each week.

At the same time, Google gathers company facts from across the web. According to its guide to establish your business details, Google’s algorithms find the site name, contact details and public social profiles. If Google verifies you as an official representative, you can update the knowledge panel. When it launched AI Mode, Google also said it can tap into the Knowledge Graph, whose facts often appear in those panels.

Where to repeat the facts from your about us page

On LinkedIn, for example, LinkedIn Help recommends filling in the overview, description, industry, company size, website and location. It also lets you mark your primary office. Use the same opening sentence from the about us page on your website in the LinkedIn overview.

FactWhere it lives on the websiteWhere to repeat it exactly
Name and legal nameAbout us and footerLinkedIn and directories
Founding yearAbout usLinkedIn description and directories
Headquarters and service areaAbout us and contact pageLinkedIn and Google Business Profile
ServicesService pagesLinkedIn and industry directories
LeadershipAbout usPersonal LinkedIn profiles
Phone and emailContact page and footerAll profiles

Also look for old versions on your own website, especially the contact page, corporate PDFs, press releases and job posts. A search like site:yourcompany.com "founded in" shows where the fact appears. For businesses with a physical address, see the GEO guide for local businesses. Press, Wikipedia and Reclame Aqui, a Brazilian complaints site, call for different work, covered in the guide to the sources AI cites most.

Should the page include numbers, awards and press?

Yes, as long as readers can check each item, as block 7 of the about us page template asks. Numbers with a date and source, awards with a year and organizer, and linked press coverage are proof that readers and AI can verify. Unsourced adjectives such as “leader” or “benchmark” prove nothing.

Google applies the same standard. Its Search Quality Rater Guidelines note that most websites have “contact us” or “about us” pages. But they also ask raters to be skeptical of what websites say about themselves. Rater scores do not directly change how any page ranks, according to Google, but they show the standard:

“When there is disagreement between what the website or content creators say about themselves and what reputable independent sources say, trust the independent sources.”

Google, Search Quality Rater Guidelines (2025)

That is why each piece of proof should point to whoever confirms it. In other words, link to the article on the outlet’s website, with its date, and to the award on the organizer’s page. An “In the press” strip with only logos lets no one check anything.

Clients need special care. In the Searchable data, brands flagged 9.9% of partnership and client facts as wrong, and 3.4% of award and certification facts. Therefore, list clients with permission and the year of the work, and review the list when a contract ends.

Which organization markup helps, and what doesn’t it do?

Organization markup in JSON-LD can help Google understand the company’s administrative details and tell it apart from other organizations. It can also influence the logo shown in search results. But AI features don’t require it, it doesn’t guarantee citations, and it doesn’t replace visible text.

Google’s documentation recommends putting the markup on the home page of your website. It can also go on a single page that describes the organization, for example the about us page. In addition, none of the properties is mandatory. Recognized ones include name, legal name, address, founding date, number of employees, logo and profiles on other sites (sameAs). The tax ID, such as the CNPJ, goes in the taxID field. On sites with a CMS, a plugin can generate the code, according to the documentation.

The code below uses fictional data. In other words, Agência Exemplo and the masked CNPJ do not exist, and the example.com domain exists only for examples. It mirrors the company facts block of the about us page template above.

Does markup make AI cite your company?

Published tests do not show a citation gain from markup. According to the page on AI features and your website, AI Overviews and AI Mode do not require special structured data. Google also asks that structured data match the visible text.

In an Ahrefs study of 1,885 pages, for example, adding schema brought no meaningful citation gain on any platform. The guide to what GEO is summarizes that study.

In an October 2025 test by searchVIU, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Mode read a test page. None cited the price that was only in the JSON-LD; whenever they got prices right, they used visible text. However, it was a single page, and searchVIU, which sells an SEO tool, admits that markup may help at other stages.

In practice, therefore, markup is a complement. Write the company facts on the page, and make the code repeat exactly what the text says.

How do you fix it when AI gets your founding year or service area wrong?

First, fix what you own. Write the correct fact on the about us page, with the review date, and delete old versions across your website. After that, update LinkedIn, profiles and directories, request a recrawl and ask AI the same questions for a few weeks.

  1. Log the error: note the question, the engine, the date, the answer and the cited source.
  2. Write the fact without ambiguity: “Founded in 2014, in Curitiba” and “we serve all of Brazil” work better than “more than ten years in the market.”
  3. Explain differences: if the brand is older than its current CNPJ or changed its name, give both dates.
  4. Clean up your own website: fix or remove pages, PDFs and press releases with the old fact.
  5. Update your profiles: LinkedIn, Google Business Profile and directories, on the same day.
  6. Request a recrawl: use the URL Inspection tool in Search Console and notify Bing through IndexNow.
  7. Check the Google knowledge panel: if the error appears there, send feedback with a link to the company about us page.

Old pages that still show the outdated fact on Google need an update or removal of outdated content. On the other hand, for an error in a third-party source, such as an old news story, contact the publisher.

According to Google, crawling can take from a few days to a few weeks, and a request does not guarantee inclusion. When AI answers from memory, without searching the web, the new fact on the page can only enter a future model training run. So that the answers stay comparable, use the method in how to measure brand mentions and citations in AI.

What we found when we analyzed 11 Brazilian guides to the about us page

We analyzed 11 pages in Brazilian Portuguese from searches like “página sobre nós” (about us page) and “quem somos” (who we are). None of them treats AI assistants as readers of the page. Only the Wix guide mentions AI, but just to suggest using it for a first draft.

None mentions structured data, the CNPJ or repeating the same facts on LinkedIn and in directories. Eight recommend mission and values. However, only five ask for the founding year or time in business, and only one asks where the company is located. Seven suggest awards or certifications, but only one says to show the source of a fact. That is why the about us page template in this guide puts company facts in block 2. It also asks for a date and source for every number.

Frequently asked questions

About us, About or Who we are: which name should the page use?

Any of them works, because what matters is the content: who the company is, what it does, for whom, where and since when. Use the term your audience recognizes, and link the page in the menu and footer of your website. Google’s own documentation even cites the about us page as an example of a page that describes the organization.

Can I use an AI generator to write the about us page?

Yes, for the draft and the structure, with the eight-block about us page template as a guide. But the company must supply the facts, such as founding year, headquarters, clients and numbers, and check each one before publishing. Then review the text so that every sentence carries a verifiable fact, not adjectives that would fit any competitor.

Does the about us page need a company tax ID and address?

It depends on the website. In Brazil, Decree 7,962/2013 covers websites that offer or sell to consumers. It requires the business name, CNPJ (tax ID) and physical and electronic address in a prominent place. For other websites, it is not mandatory, but it helps tell the company apart from others with similar names. Organization markup also has its own field for the tax ID.

How long does AI take to show the corrected fact?

There is no fixed timeline. According to Google, a new crawl can take from a few days to a few weeks, and requesting one does not guarantee inclusion. When AI answers from memory, the correction on the page depends on a new model training run. So ask the same questions for a few weeks and compare the answers.
